A federal jury has convicted 32-year-old Nigerian national Olusegun Samson Adejorin of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and unauthorized access to a protected computer in Greenbelt, Maryland, United States.

Adejorin was convicted on Thursday, December 18, 2025, following a six-day trial. According to a press statement by the U.S. Department of Justice, he had previously been extradited from Ghana in connection with the case.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Kelly O. Hayes, along with FBI Baltimore Field Office Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul, announced the guilty verdict. Evidence presented at trial showed that between June and August 2020, Adejorin orchestrated a scheme to defraud Victim 1, a Maryland-based charitable organization providing investment services, and Victim 2, a charitable organization in New York.

Adejorin gained access to employee email accounts and impersonated employees to initiate fraudulent financial transactions. He registered spoofed domain names to pose as Victim 2 employees and requested withdrawals of Victim 2’s funds from Victim 1. Adejorin also accessed Victim 1’s email accounts to send false confirmations of these requests.

As a result of his scheme, more than $7.5 million of Victim 2’s funds were transferred from Victim 1 to bank accounts controlled by Adejorin.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison for each of the five wire fraud counts, five years for unauthorized computer access, and a mandatory two-year consecutive sentence for aggravated identity theft. U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang scheduled sentencing for Friday, April 10, 2026.

Federal sentences are often less than the statutory maximums. Judges determine final sentences based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

U.S. Attorney Hayes praised the FBI for its investigative work and thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua Rosenthal and Darren S. Gardner for prosecuting the case.
