The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has intervened to resolve diplomatic tensions surrounding the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130 aircraft seized by the government of Burkina Faso.

The controversy arose after the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) issued a statement, signed by Mali junta leader Assimi Goita, claiming that the NAF plane had entered Burkina Faso’s airspace without authorization. However, the Nigerian Air Force maintained that the aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso, a city in Burkina Faso, due to a technical issue.

The AES, which includes Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, consists of the three countries that withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) following the organization’s opposition to the military coups in their respective nations.
