Actress Nkechi Blessing has spoken out against online trolls who attack her personal life without reason.
In a recent Instagram video, Nkechi questioned why people feel entitled to criticize her marriage and family choices simply because she’s in the public eye.
“Is it okay for someone to come at you unprovoked? Marriage shame you. Child shame you. Just like that. Because you’re a so-called celebrity. I’ve always said this—I’m not a celebrity. I have blood running through my veins. I am human just like you,” she said.
She also reminded her 2.6 million followers that having a large following doesn’t make her superhuman.
“Having 2.6 million followers doesn’t make me a demigod. Mark [Facebook’s founder] can decide to take the page down at any time. Will my life stop? No.”
Nkechi went on to explain that trolls often expect her to stay silent, but she prefers to respond in kind.
“My darling, it’s aura for aura. The only thing that keeps me sane is giving back what you dish out. People only see your reaction, not what they say to you.”
She shared a recent example of a troll who messaged her, calling her “a very useless person… jumping from one man to another… make she go marry… make she go born.”
Nkechi revealed her reply in direct messages:
“You give me, I give you, then everybody will be okay. Then you run away crying because of just one line. But you, you write plenty. Like I said, I’m not a celebrity. You bring rubbish to me, I give rubbish back.”
