Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested two notorious kidnapping kingpins following a counter-kidnapping operation.
The suspects, identified as Masud Abdullahi, gang leader from Karu LGA, Nasarawa State, and Muhammad Tahir from Jos, Plateau State, were apprehended after a report of a kidnapping in Karu, Abuja.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Josephine Adeh, the report was received on August 16, 2025, at about 12:05 a.m., detailing that armed men had invaded an estate in Karu and abducted Barrister Henry Chichi. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately launched a rescue operation, mounting intense pressure on the abductors, which led to the victim’s safe release on August 17, 2025, at 9:05 p.m.
A follow-up operation, conducted with the Nasarawa State Police Command, resulted in the interception of the suspects along the Guraku axis of the Nasarawa–FCT Highway after their operational vehicle, a red Opel Vectra (registration number BLD 566 AT), lost control. While some gang members fled, Abdullahi and Tahir were arrested.
The suspects later led police to their hideout in Karshi Forest, Nasarawa State, where another gang member, Kabiru Jibril (22), was arrested. Items recovered include:
- N7.4 million cash
- Three AK-47 rifles with magazines
- One G3 rifle with magazine
- Sixteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
- One Tecno handset
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, praised the operatives’ professionalism and assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.
