The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that four local government areas (LGAs) in Borno State will not host the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at their headquarters due to insecurity.

The affected LGAs are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte.

Borno State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji, disclosed this at a press conference in Maiduguri on Friday, August 15. He explained that, for safety reasons, INEC offices in these LGAs will conduct in-person registration at alternative locations within the Maiduguri metropolis.

  • Abadam residents: Yerwa Peace, Baga Road, Maiduguri
  • Guzamala residents: Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate, Maiduguri
  • Kala-Balge residents: Goni Kachallari Primary School, Mafa Road, Maiduguri
  • Marte residents: Kachamari, opposite Shettiram Filling Station, Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri

Ma’aji said the CVR will be conducted in three phases:

  • Phase 1: August 28 – December 10, 2025; register display from December 15 – 21, 2025
  • Phase 2: January 5 – April 17, 2026; register display from April 20 – 26, 2026
  • Phase 3: May 4 – August 17, 2026; register display from August 24 – 30, 2026

Calling the exercise a “national call to civic duty”, Ma’aji urged eligible citizens to take part and appealed for media support and public cooperation. He assured that INEC will provide regular updates throughout the process.
