The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.
Justice Simon Aboki delivered the ruling after finding Ajayi guilty of killing and dismembering Adaidu in a gruesome act that shocked the public.
The incident occurred on Sunday, January 12, 2025, when Ajayi — a gospel singer, fitness enthusiast, and social media content creator — was caught near a church in Orozo, a border town between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, carrying a sack containing the severed head of the victim.
Following his arrest, Ajayi led police to the location of the remaining body parts, which had been chopped into small pieces.
He was subsequently charged with one count of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which carries the death penalty.
During the court proceedings, Ajayi was seen praying and putting on what observers described as a religious display in the courtroom.
On Thursday, June 26, Justice Aboki ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the evidence clearly established Ajayi’s responsibility for the crime.
He was sentenced to death by hanging.
