Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz declared on Thursday that his country would not permit the entry of essential resources or humanitarian aid into Gaza until Hamas released the individuals it had abducted during its unexpected weekend attack.
Katz stated, “Humanitarian aid for Gaza? No power switch will be activated, no water source will be opened, and no fuel delivery will occur until the abducted Israelis are safely returned home.”
During the Saturday attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people in Israeli towns and communities surrounding the enclave, approximately 150 Israelis, foreigners, and dual nationals were taken hostage by Hamas militants.
In response, Israel initiated an intense aerial campaign against Hamas militants in the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,200 lives.
In recent days, Israel implemented a “complete siege” on Gaza, leading to the cessation of water, fuel, and electricity supplies. The sole power plant in the Palestinian territory ceased operations on Wednesday due to fuel depletion.
