The terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy’ – US, UK, France and allies offer Israel steadfast support in joint statement

“The leaders of the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, and Italy have issued a joint statement demonstrating their ‘steadfast and unified support’ for the state of Israel while unequivocally condemning the actions of the Hamas militant group.

This statement comes in the wake of an unprecedented attack on Israel from Gaza by the Palestinian militant group, prompting Israel to respond with airstrikes and a ‘complete siege’ of the Gaza Strip.

The joint statement was released following a conversation between UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These five countries collectively form the Quint international organization.

The statement emphatically asserts, ‘We make it clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism.’

It goes on to highlight the recent horrifying acts by Hamas terrorists, including the killing of families in their homes, the massacre of over 200 young people at a music festival, and the abduction of elderly women, children, and entire families, who are currently being held as hostages. The statement affirms that their countries will support Israel in its efforts to defend itself and its people against such atrocities, while emphasizing that this is not an opportune moment for any party hostile to Israel to exploit these attacks for their advantage.

Despite the condemnation of Hamas, the statement does acknowledge the ‘legitimate aspirations’ of the Palestinian people. It states, ‘All of us recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and support equal measures of justice and freedom for both Israelis and Palestinians. However, it must be clear that Hamas does not represent these aspirations and offers nothing to the Palestinian people except more terror and bloodshed.'”

The terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy

Since the commencement of the conflict on Saturday, reports indicate that a staggering 900 individuals have tragically lost their lives in Israel, with Gaza bearing the brunt, accounting for over 650 casualties. Israel’s foreign ministry also reported that Hamas has taken over 100 individuals hostage.

On Sunday, October 8, the United States Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, made the announcement that American naval assets, including an aircraft carrier, have been directed to reposition closer to the eastern Mediterranean in response to the attack by Hamas. However, it was confirmed on Monday that the United States has no plans to deploy ground forces following the attacks on Israel.

Earlier in the day on Monday, UK Prime Minister Sunak pledged his commitment to offering diplomatic, intelligence, or security assistance to Israel upon request. This assurance came after he presided over an emergency Cobra meeting.
