“Nigeria’s Readiness to Assume a Vital Role in G20 Discussed by Tinubu with World Leaders”

President Bola Tinubu, during his visit to New Delhi, India on Saturday, reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to actively participate in the G20 and contribute significantly to the creation of a fairer global order.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu said this while addressing world leaders at the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit.

He said the Nigerian leader called for global unity and cooperation in tackling pressing challenges, fostering inclusiveness, and establishing a fairer world order.

Recognizing the pivotal role played by the G20 in shaping a rules-based global order that fosters shared prosperity and security, President Tinubu stressed that many of the pressing challenges we face today are “of international nature and demand multilateral solutions.”

Henceforth, enhanced collaboration, cooperation, and partnerships across various regions are the avenues leading us towards a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for our world.

This shows the pivotal role and invaluable contributions of the G20 in forging a new world order characterized by fairness and adherence to established rules. In a world where we aspire to live as a global family, the stark disparities in income and unequal access to fundamental social necessities among the vast majority of our populace pose a significant impediment to achieving a peaceful and secure world marked by shared prosperity.

It is imperative to emphasize that the formulation, ownership, and administration of such regulatory frameworks and global governance structures that align with our collective aspirations must be a collaborative endeavor. This approach resonates with the authentic principles of unity, mutual respect, and sustainable development that underpin the spirit of our global community.

Nigeria stands ready, capable, and eager to assume a pivotal role within the G-20 family, contributing significantly to the shaping of a new world order. Without our active participation, this family remains incomplete,” he emphasized.

The Nigerian leader extended his congratulations to India for hosting the historic summit and for their remarkable achievement of landing on the moon, which was made possible through the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He lauded this accomplishment as an inspiration not only to India but to all developing countries within the Global South.

Regarding the matter of African Union (AU) inclusion in the G20, the Nigerian leader expressed his enthusiastic support for the decision. He noted that this move opens up new avenues for future membership within the group, with a strong emphasis on ensuring a balance of power and inclusiveness that mirrors the diversity of humanity as one united family.

Reflecting upon the overarching theme of the summit, ‘One Earth. One Family. One Future,’ President Tinubu underscored the interconnected nature of global affairs and emphasized the imperative for collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges of our shared world.

He emphasized the significance of addressing challenges related to technology, the energy transition, access to credit, and the growing socio-economic disparity between the privileged and the underprivileged.

The President passionately called for enhanced solidarity among nations, urging advanced economies to provide support to disadvantaged regions in the Global South and to champion climate justice.

President Tinubu also advocated for the reinforcement of international frameworks for resource mobilization and governance that uphold the principles of justice, equity, and fairness.

When addressing the sub-theme of Session II of the Summit, titled “One Family,” President Tinubu underscored the enormity of the challenges confronting humanity today.

“Therefore, it has become even more imperative for us to work together as one family. We must endeavor to establish a world characterized by inclusivity, where every individual has access to life’s essential necessities, irrespective of their economic, social, or political status. This should be done in a manner that broadens and strengthens our collective ownership of the planet.”

President Tinubu urged the Global North, advanced economies, and multilateral institutions to pool resources and direct their efforts to where assistance is most urgently needed in the disadvantaged Global South.

“In doing so, we will be constructing a society rooted in the strong values of tolerance and mutual respect. Here, diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation will take precedence over competition, conflict, and divisions that often stem from rigid ideologies and belief systems,” the President concluded.
