Inaccurate NIN and Other Biodata Details Resulting in Passport Processing Delays – Immigration

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) attributes delays in the processing and issuance of certain international passports to Nigerian applicants to discrepancies in identification, including National Identification Numbers (NINs).

The Service Controller for Rivers State, Sunday James, shared this information in Port Harcourt while addressing the audience at the 60th anniversary celebration of the service in the state.

During his speech, James elucidated the development of the Nigerian passport, highlighting that inconsistencies in identity information, including the NIN, have been responsible for the delays in the processing and issuance of passports.

Expanding on the topic on the sidelines of the event, the controller emphasized the significant evolution of the service from its inception to the present day.

Several participants who engaged with journalists praised the immigration service for its commendable efforts.

The event saw the presence of officers from allied security agencies, and notable moments included the display of passports, residence permits, and various identification documents.

Operatives of the NIS stood in formation for inspection at the Federal Secretariat building as part of the anniversary commemoration.

Within the conference hall, male officers of the service were joined by members of the public and other stakeholders to celebrate and extend their felicitations to the service.
