Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has criticised Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, accusing them of failing to present clear alternatives to the ruling party.
In a social media post, Doyle argued that substantive discussions about Nigeria’s economy and political system were being overshadowed by personal attacks and tribal rivalry.
According to Doyle, the ruling party has highlighted what it describes as gains in the macroeconomy and pledged to consolidate them while ensuring that the benefits eventually reach the microeconomic level.
He argued that the opposition had neither sufficiently challenged the ruling party’s economic claims nor presented a clear blueprint for Nigeria’s short- and long-term development.
Doyle also criticised opposition politicians for what he described as an excessive focus on social media content and the pursuit of FBI documents. He further claimed that, at the time of his post, the ruling party was the only party to have inaugurated its campaign council.
The actor also argued that opposition parties could eventually accuse the ruling party of rigging if it wins the election, despite what he described as inadequate preparation and campaigning by the opposition.
His comments come as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates increasingly focused on the economy, governance and the strategies being adopted by both the ruling party and its opponents.
