The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reviewed its policy on changing registered phone numbers and email addresses, giving relief to candidates who have lost access to the details linked to their profiles.
The new arrangement took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, and allows candidates with genuine cases to update their registered GSM number, email address, or both through a controlled verification process.
Candidates Must Pass Verification
According to JAMB, the new process is designed to protect candidates’ profiles from fraud, impersonation and unauthorised changes.
Candidates requesting the service must undergo strict identity and biometric verification at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. State offices may also provide the service where applicable.
JAMB said the facility is intended for genuine situations, including cases where a candidate has lost access to the SIM card used during registration or can no longer recover the email account connected to the profile.
The Service Can Only Be Used Once
One of the major directives from JAMB is that candidates can access the SIM or email update service only once.
The examination body also warned candidates against using unauthorised agents or individuals who claim they can change their details on their behalf.
“For your security, use only designated JAMB centres and avoid unauthorised persons or channels,” JAMB advised.
What Candidates Need to Do
Reports on JAMB’s revised procedure indicate that candidates seeking the service should first access their e-Facility profile and select the SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment option.
After making the prescribed payment, the candidate is expected to visit a designated JAMB CBT centre and access the relevant SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink.
The candidate will then provide the existing profile information, undergo biometric verification and select whether to change the GSM number, email address or both.
A duly executed court affidavit is also required under the detailed procedure and should be scanned and uploaded during the process.
Once the update is successfully completed, a confirmation message will be displayed.
JAMB Warns Candidates Against Fraudsters
The latest development is expected to assist candidates who have been unable to access their JAMB profiles because they lost their registered phone numbers or email accounts.
However, candidates have been advised to deal directly with designated JAMB centres rather than paying unauthorised middlemen.
JAMB said the review became possible following the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures designed to provide additional protection for candidates’ records.
Candidates affected by the loss of their registered SIM or email should therefore follow the official procedure carefully and avoid sharing their personal credentials with strangers.
