Kingsley Ehizibue Begins New Serie A Chapter With Genoa After Leaving Udinese

Nigerian defender Kingsley Ehizibue has officially joined Serie A club Genoa on a free transfer after bringing his four-year spell with Udinese to an end.

The 31-year-old right-back signed a multi-year contract with Genoa on September 3, 2026, after completing his medical. The move will see him remain in Italy’s top flight as he begins another chapter of his career.

Ehizibue joined Udinese in 2022 from German Bundesliga side FC Köln and went on to become an experienced figure in the club’s defence. During his time at Udinese, he made more than 100 appearances, including 32 Serie A appearances in the 2025/26 season, when he scored two goals.

His contract with Udinese expired at the end of last season, allowing him to leave the club as a free agent. Genoa then moved quickly to secure his services and add more experience to its defensive options ahead of the new Serie A campaign.

The move is particularly significant because Genoa had previously attempted to sign Ehizibue in 2019 when he was playing for PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands. The proposed transfer did not go ahead at the time, and the defender eventually moved to FC Köln instead. Seven years later, the two sides have finally completed the deal.

Speaking after completing the move, Ehizibue reflected on his previous decision to turn down Genoa and said he was happy to finally wear the club’s colours.

For Genoa, the defender brings pace, physical strength and valuable experience of Serie A. The club’s Chief of Football, Diego Lopez, also highlighted Ehizibue’s athletic qualities and adaptability as important additions to the squad.

Ehizibue, who has previously been invited to the Super Eagles, will now look to establish himself at Genoa and continue his career in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues. His arrival also gives him another opportunity to remain in the spotlight as Nigerian football fans follow the performances of players representing the country abroad.

After four years at Udinese, Ehizibue has closed one chapter of his Italian career and opened another at Genoa. With the new Serie A season underway, attention will now turn to how much of an impact the experienced right-back can make for his new club.
