Britain’s Prince Harry and his family are set to return to the United Kingdom next month, according to British media reports.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to travel with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, marking their first visit to the UK as a family in four years, according to the BBC, The Telegraph, and ITV News.
Harry and Meghan, who now live in California, stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to North America. Since then, they have remained embroiled in a long-running and highly publicized rift with the royal family.
The couple have previously cited a combination of relentless tabloid intrusion, racism within British institutions, online abuse, complex family dynamics, and a desire for financial independence as reasons for leaving the UK. They discussed these issues in televised interviews and in Harry’s memoir.
Since relocating, Harry, 41, has made several solo visits to the UK, including attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 and the coronation of his father, King Charles III, in 2023.
Most recently, he returned to England last September, when he reunited with his father for their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. Earlier this year, Harry was also in the UK to attend court proceedings in a lawsuit he and others filed against the publisher of the Daily Mail, alleging unlawful information gathering.
Harry has repeatedly expressed his desire to reconcile with his family, and his recent meeting with the King fueled speculation that relations between the Sussexes and the royal family may be improving.
It remains unclear whether King Charles III will meet his grandchildren during the reported visit. The King last saw Archie and Lilibet in person in 2022, when the Sussex family returned to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The family’s visit is expected to coincide with an event marking one year until the start of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, the international sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans that Harry founded more than a decade ago.
According to reports, Harry has been assured that appropriate security arrangements will be in place for the upcoming trip.
