Presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, has warned that individuals who use social media to spread panic and misinformation will face the full weight of the law.
He issued the warning via his X handle while announcing the arrest of a man accused of causing a major security scare in Abuja.
According to Onanuga, the suspect allegedly raised a false alarm about an impending security breach in the Federal Capital Territory, triggering widespread fear among residents and disrupting academic activities in nearby communities.
The Presidency reiterated that while freedom of expression remains a fundamental right, actions that undermine public trust, spread false information, or threaten national security will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
