Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have neutralised at least two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle in the Karshi area, on the border between the FCT and Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 6, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation was carried out on May 3 following credible intelligence that led officers to the kidnappers’ hideout.
According to the statement, the suspects opened fire immediately they sighted the operatives, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, the gang leader, identified as Baba Ibrahim, also known as “Tsoho,” and another suspect, Isah Shehu, were neutralised by the operatives.
The police spokesperson added that three other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot wounds, while one suspect was arrested at the scene.
Items recovered from the hideout included two AK-47 rifles, one pistol, and 17 rounds of live ammunition.
The statement further noted: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate, led by Baba Ibrahim alias ‘Tsoho,’ comprises Khalid, Dan Geskiya, Mohammadu Mai Tsage, Isah Shehu, and one Dogo.
“Further investigations indicate that the gang has been linked to multiple kidnapping incidents across Gwagwalada, Nyanya, Jikwoyi, and Karshi areas of the FCT, with at least 12 victims abducted.”
