The Obidient Movement has said Peter Obi is still consulting with key stakeholders as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, amid growing speculation about his political future.
In a statement issued on Saturday, May 2, by its national coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, the movement urged supporters to remain calm, noting that Obi’s ongoing engagements are focused on identifying the most strategic path forward.
“We wish to reassure all supporters and members of the movement across Nigeria and in the diaspora that His Excellency, Peter Gregory Obi, is currently engaged in extensive, high-level consultations with key stakeholders, political allies, and aligned movements,” the statement read.
“These engagements are focused on determining the most strategic and effective path forward in the best interest of the Nigerian people and our shared mission to build a New Nigeria.”
The clarification follows speculation that Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, may leave the African Democratic Congress, a platform he reportedly joined in recent months.
The movement emphasised that the consultations are deliberate and guided by long-term national interests, adding that any eventual decision will align with its core values.
“These consultations are deliberate, thorough, and guided by the overriding objective of securing a future that works for all Nigerians,” the statement added.
“We urge all Obidients to remain calm, patient, and focused. Do not be swayed by speculative reports. Peter Obi remains fully committed to this mission and will, in due course, formally address the Obidient Movement and the general public to provide clarity on the current situation and the direction ahead.”
