There was drama in Edo State last Friday after a family nearly cancelled their loved one’s funeral upon discovering her eyes were missing.
According to MC Oviakpo, a friend of the deceased’s husband, the family had visited the morgue to collect her body on the day of the funeral when they made the discovery. When questioned, a mortuary attendant claimed the eyes had dissolved due to chemicals used in washing the body. However, the family rejected this explanation and insisted that the husband present her body in the same complete condition as when he married her—meaning her eyes had to be intact before the funeral could proceed.
Following a heated argument, a doctor was invited by the family. After conducting a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed that the eyes were affected by the embalming chemicals, as well as the deceased’s nine-month stay in the mortuary. The family subsequently agreed to proceed with the funeral.
