A Florida math teacher has been arrested for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student, after the situation came to light when the boy lied to his parents.
Kirsten Rose, 37, was arrested on Friday, April 10, five months after she reportedly began communicating with the student outside of class via Instagram, according to court documents obtained by WPEC-TV. The communication allegedly continued into the new year, with authorities claiming the two had sexual encounters in February and March.
The boy’s parents became suspicious when he returned home late from work one night. After checking his location and noticing he was at an unfamiliar residence, they questioned him. He initially said he was with his “girlfriend” but did not identify Rose. Continued questioning led to him admitting he was in a relationship with his teacher.
Rose, who taught at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School, has been charged with five counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. She is currently being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail following a police investigation.
Her arraignment is scheduled for May 5, and the investigation is ongoing.
