The Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit has rescued nine foreign nationals and arrested two suspects linked to a transnational fraud syndicate.
The suspects, Stephen Kwame and Abubakar Sulaimon, were apprehended at their hideout in Owode Egba, where they were holding the victims captive.
Confirming the arrest, the state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the victims — including a Ghanaian national — were lured to Nigeria with false promises of travel to Europe and were subsequently forced to pay ransom. He revealed that one of the victims paid ₵31,000 before being rescued, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with international travel agents. He also noted that the command has provided emergency contact numbers for reporting suspicious activities.
