The governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has said the identity of those responsible for the attack in Angwam community last Sunday, March 29, is yet to be determined.
Governor Mutfwang made this known while speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, April 1.
He explained that he visited the President to brief him on the situation and the measures taken so far by the state government.
“What happened on Sunday evening was quite unfortunate, but the situation has now been brought under control. We’ve evacuated the corpses to the mortuary, and some families have already buried their dead.
“We imposed a curfew, which we relaxed this morning (Wednesday) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, there were attempts by looters to disrupt the peace again, but security forces working together were able to restore calm as of 12 noon. Presently, the situation is well under control,” he said.
The governor added that the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
“In a crisis of this nature, it’s difficult to attribute it to a single cause. It is usually a combination of factors, and the true reasons can only be determined after engaging both the victims and the attackers.
“Unfortunately, we have not yet apprehended the attackers to establish their identities or motives. While victims may share their perspectives, we view this as an act of criminality. It is barbaric, and we strongly condemn it,” he added.
