The Guinea Football Federation has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to review the outcome of the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), citing Morocco’s walkout during a decisive match and a recent ruling against Senegal.

The appeal comes after CAF overturned the 2025 AFCON result, sanctioning Senegal for a walkout despite the team winning on the field. CAF stripped Senegal of the 2025 title 58 days after the tournament and declared hosts Morocco as champions. Guinea argues that similar disciplinary standards should be applied to historical matches.

The federation pointed to the 1976 clash between Morocco and Guinea, which was played under a four-team round-robin format. Morocco needed a draw to secure the title, while Guinea required a victory.

Guinea took the lead in the 33rd minute through Chérif Souleymane. Moroccan players briefly walked off in protest over a refereeing decision but later returned to continue the match. Ahmed Makrouh equalized in the 86th minute, and the game ended 1-1.

Morocco finished top of the group with five points to claim the title, while Guinea placed second.
