Country music star Maren Morris has strongly criticised the administration of Donald Trump, saying she is not concerned about losing fans because of her political views.
In a video posted on TikTok, the singer spoke openly about her frustration with Trump supporters and the current political climate.
Morris said people who voted for Trump in presidential elections had supported what she described as a “dementia-ridden, diaper-clad cornball,” adding that those voters had been “bamboozled.” She also said she does not feel sympathy for members of the “MAGA” movement who may now feel disappointed with their political leader.
“This is literally the result of propping up and voting for losers,” Morris said in the video. The singer acknowledged that politics has increasingly become part of the country music industry since she rose to prominence with songs such as My Church.
Despite saying she is disappointed by how political the genre has become, Morris maintained that she will continue to express her views publicly. “If you don’t agree with me … you can’t enjoy my music because of my viewpoints? You’re absolutely allowed to do that,” she said.
“But I am only here for an iteration of revolutions around the sun — a couple — and so I do feel like I have sacrificed a lot of my mental health, my financial standing, and my family, just because I am so deeply concerned and uncomfortable with the weird status quo of country music.”
