The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has vowed that the 29-year-old woman accused of torturing her maid with a hot electric iron will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.

According to LIB, the suspect, Osinachi Ede, was arrested by the police on February 3, 2026. She allegedly used a hot pressing iron on a 17-year-old student of Community Secondary School, Agulu, Awka, as punishment for making a phone call.

Chuma-Udeh spoke on the matter while addressing the suspect in her office in Awka on Friday, February 20. She emphasized that prosecuting the case would serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar acts.

The commissioner also directed that the victim, who had been sent to her relatives, be returned to Awka, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to child protection.

“The suspect will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for brutalizing the victim. This is to serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in such acts,” Udeh stated.

She added, “This reflects the resolve of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to ensure the welfare and safety of every child in Anambra schools. The suspect must face the law to deter others from similar acts of abuse, as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to protecting students and pupils in the state.”

Udeh warned that the full weight of the law would be applied against anyone found guilty of child abuse in Anambra.
