Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cultists, have killed a community leader and another person in Anambra State.
The President-General of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area, Ikwuka Okoye, popularly known as Anumili, was shot dead on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Reports suggest that the attack may have been carried out by a rival cult group in revenge for the death of their leader, who was recently arrested and killed by local security operatives.
The attack occurred at the School Field in Ogidi, where another man—whose identity has not yet been confirmed—was also killed.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:
“Daredevil gunmen invaded our community last night. By the time they were done, the town’s President-General, Sir Ikwuka Okoye, and another victim, who was his relative, lay dead on the floor. The incident happened at the School Field, Ogidi.”
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident in a press statement on Saturday. Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the killing is allegedly linked to the recent capture and death of a notorious cultist in the community.
He added:
“The Anambra State Police Command regrets the murder of the President-General of Ogidi community and one other person. Following the report, police operatives swiftly took over the scene and commenced investigations. We are currently working with eyewitness accounts and other intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.”
The police assured the public that efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
