Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned the United States to tread carefully as nuclear negotiations with Iran pick up again, cautioning that Tehran cannot be trusted to honor any agreements.

Netanyahu shared this stance during a Tuesday meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, as efforts to revive talks over Iran’s nuclear program gained momentum.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, Netanyahu emphasized Iran’s long history of breaking promises. “He made clear his position that Iran has repeatedly proven that its commitments cannot be trusted,” the statement said.

The meeting also included top Israeli officials: intelligence chief David Barnea, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and military chief Eyal Zamir.

The renewed discussions are set to take place in Turkey, with the U.S. pushing for three key conditions: a halt to uranium enrichment, restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile program, and an end to Tehran’s support for regional proxy groups. These demands closely mirror Israel’s long-standing red lines.

Iran, however, has consistently rejected all three conditions, calling them violations of its sovereignty. Iranian officials have indicated that curbs on ballistic missiles may be the toughest hurdle, more so than restrictions on uranium enrichment.

Tensions remain high in the region. The U.S. has boosted its military presence in the Middle East, including deploying an aircraft carrier and support ships, fueling fears of a potential confrontation if diplomacy stalls.

The strained relationship is further complicated by Iran’s crackdown on recent protests, which human rights groups say resulted in thousands of deaths. Iranian authorities have blamed the unrest on “armed groups” allegedly backed by Israel and the U.S.

As negotiations resume, Netanyahu’s message is clear: the world should approach Iran with caution, and no one should take Tehran’s promises at face value.
