The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said the high level of compliance observed during Monday’s sit-at-home exercise across parts of the South-East shows that residents cannot be forced or intimidated into abandoning the group’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The sit-at-home was declared in solidarity with traders at the Onitsha Main Market after Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, ordered the closure of the market. Although the state government later reopened the market following a one-week shutdown, reports indicate that only a limited number of traders returned to their shops.

Across Anambra State, major roads were largely empty, while offices, schools, and businesses remained shut, particularly in the early hours of the day.

Reacting to the development, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, described the action as recording “total compliance across Biafraland.” He praised residents of the South-East for what he described as their steadfast support for Nnamdi Kanu.

According to him, the outcome of the sit-at-home demonstrated the people’s determination to resist intimidation and coercion in their continued demand for Kanu’s release from detention.

IPOB said the widespread shutdown across communities reflected unity and sent a clear message that pressure or threats would not weaken the loyalty of the Biafran people. The group stressed that support for Kanu represents collective strength and resolve rather than weakness.

The group further maintained that it remains committed to order, discipline, and respect for institutions, while insisting it would continue to resist any attempt to suppress or intimidate its supporters. IPOB added that the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu only strengthens its call for justice.
