Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Kyiv is prepared to resume discussions with the United States next week regarding proposals aimed at ending the war with Russia.

Speaking in his evening address on Saturday, Zelensky said Ukrainian negotiators were awaiting confirmation from Washington on the timing of further meetings. The conflict, which began in February 2022, is now approaching its fourth anniversary.

Zelensky’s remarks suggest that a second round of talks, initially scheduled for Sunday in Abu Dhabi and involving US, Russian, and Ukrainian officials, may have been postponed.

“Ukraine is ready to work in all working formats,” he said. “It is important that there are results and that the meetings take place. We are counting on meetings next week and are preparing for them.”

The announcement came as US envoy Steve Witkoff described his discussions with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Florida on Saturday as “productive and constructive.”

Last week, Ukrainian and Russian teams met in Abu Dhabi for their first face-to-face negotiations under a plan promoted by former US President Donald Trump to end the conflict. The parties had initially agreed to reconvene on Sunday.

However, Zelensky indicated on Thursday that the timing and location of the next talks could change due to rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.

While the United States has said both sides are close to reaching an agreement, Kyiv maintains that major differences remain, particularly regarding territorial issues in any post-war settlement.
