The head teacher of the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School in Jamigbe community, Gawu Ward, Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has died after being bitten by a snake.

The village chief of Jamigbe community, Aliyu, disclosed this while speaking during a visit by Daily Trust. He said the snake gained access to the head teacher’s office through a crack in the wall and hid under a chair before attacking him.

According to the chief, the head teacher had arrived at the school in the morning to open his office. As he attempted to sit down, a cobra struck and spat venom into his eyes. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Lambata, Niger State.

Aliyu said the head teacher was pronounced dead a few hours later. He blamed the incident on the dilapidated condition of the school’s infrastructure.

The tragedy, he added, has thrown the entire community—parents, teachers, and residents—into mourning and fear. He also revealed that community members later mobilized and killed the snake.
