Nigerians have resurfaced an old video of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, criticizing the practice of sending children abroad to study law.
The video began trending just days after reports emerged that his son recently earned a Master’s degree in Law from King’s College London.
In the clip, Wike—who previously served as Governor of Rivers State—argued that certain courses do not require foreign education, stressing that Nigerian universities are well equipped to teach them.
According to him, there is little justification for sending students overseas to study courses such as English, Economics, or Law when Nigerian institutions have strong faculties capable of delivering quality education in those fields.
The resurfaced video has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians drawing comparisons between his past remarks and recent developments involving his family.
