The Airport Police Command has confirmed that it is aware of a video circulating on social media involving some of its officers and an Instagram content creator, identified as @teaserprank2, following a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lagos airport road.
In the viral video, the content creator explained that he had gone to pick up a friend from the airport and was on his way home when he was stopped by police officers along the route. He alleged that the officers searched the boot of his vehicle and, despite finding nothing incriminating, accused him and his companions of being thieves.
According to him, the situation escalated when he refused to accompany the officers to their office. He claimed that the officers treated him harshly, as though he were a criminal. Footage recorded during the incident reportedly shows an officer striking his phone as he attempted to film the encounter, as well as another officer grabbing his trousers and dragging him.
Responding to the video, the Airport Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said the officers involved have been identified and taken into custody. He noted that they are currently undergoing internal disciplinary procedures in line with existing rules, regulations and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
Adeola said the command sympathises with the content creator over the experience and emphasised that the police do not tolerate harassment, intimidation or unprofessional conduct by its personnel under any circumstances.
“The Nigeria Police Force does not condone any form of harassment or abuse. Our officers are expected to perform their lawful duties with civility, restraint and respect for the rights and dignity of all citizens,” he stated.
