The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of popular Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
According to the police, the suspect has been taken into custody while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for further investigation.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, stated that investigations have commenced into the death of the 22-year-old singer and assured the public that updates would be provided as the probe progresses.
News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after disturbing videos circulated online showing his body being transported to a mortuary. The clips, which quickly went viral, sparked widespread grief and speculation among fans and the general public. In one of the videos, the late singer was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils.
Amid the growing speculation, an associate of the singer later released a video clarifying that Destiny Boy had been dealing with a private health challenge prior to his death.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy rose to prominence with his unique Fuji-inspired sound. He gained massive attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If. He later went on to release several tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.
Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
