The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has confirmed an attack on its checkpoint along the Wawa–Babanla Road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muti, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, between 12:28 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
According to the statement, an undisclosed number of heavily armed bandits stormed the checkpoint and opened fire on officers on duty. The personnel reportedly carried out a tactical withdrawal from the area and escaped unhurt.
The attackers were said to have carted away the officers’ personal belongings, vandalised an operational Hilux patrol vehicle by deflating its tyres, and made away with one G3 rifle.
The checkpoint is located about three kilometres from Wawa town and approximately nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks.
Muti confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the attack, adding that the NSCDC has commenced collaboration with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and restore security in the area.
He reassured residents of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property across Niger State.
