Militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have executed a local chief from Yawal Kawa, Borno State.
A security analyst, Brant Philip, disclosed via X on Thursday, December 18, 2025, that the chief was abducted by the terrorist group last week and interrogated over alleged ties to the Nigerian government. According to Philip, ISWAP accused the chief of cooperating with and being loyal to what they termed the “apostate Nigerian government” and the Army—claims often used by the group to justify attacks on civilians and community leaders in the region.
ISWAP released a photo of the execution on its Amaq propaganda channel on Thursday.
