The newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, Alhaji Saidu, alongside two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards, has been reportedly abducted by suspected terrorists.

According to Vanguard, credible sources disclosed that the abduction occurred on Wednesday evening, December 17, while the elected officials were travelling from Biu to Maiduguri. One of the abducted councillors was identified as the immediate past Vice Chairman of the local government.

A senior politician, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victims were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents along the Kamuya village–Buni Yadi road.

“Yes, our newly elected Vice Chairman, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors from Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards were abducted between Kamuya village and the Buni Yadi axis. They were travelling alongside other passengers in a Hisbah vehicle coming from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu,” the source said.

He appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe rescue of the abducted officials and other captives.

Some unidentified passengers travelling in the same Hisbah vehicle were also abducted during the incident.

The Biu–Buratai–Kamuya–Buni–Damaturu road, spanning about 120 kilometres, has long been notorious for attacks, with several travellers reportedly killed or abducted while using the route.
