Senator Chris Ngige, a former governor of Anambra State, has been arrested in Abuja. Reports indicate that armed operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) picked him up from his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road.
Earlier, there were claims that Ngige, who also served as Minister of Labour and Employment under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, had been kidnapped in Abuja. However, his media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, dismissed these reports, clarifying that Ngige is with the EFCC.
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details will follow,” Chukwuelobe stated.
The EFCC has not yet released an official statement, and the reason for Ngige’s arrest remains unclear at the time of reporting.
This development comes just days after Ngige’s convoy was attacked in Anambra State by armed assailants. A police officer was shot during the ambush, and several others were injured. Ngige was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
