Former Aston Villa player Ahmed Elmohamady has launched a scathing attack on Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, branding him a “disgrace” for his recent comments about Mohamed Salah.
The controversy erupted after Salah’s weekend interview, in which he claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus” following their draw with Leeds. The Egyptian star also stated he had “no relationship” with manager Arne Slot after being left out of the starting XI for a third consecutive Premier League match. He was subsequently omitted entirely from the squad for Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan.
Carragher weighed in on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football ahead of Manchester United’s victory over Wolves, criticising Salah’s conduct and describing his behaviour as a “disgrace.” He referenced Salah’s struggles during his early stint at Chelsea, where he managed only two goals in 19 appearances. Later, after Salah posted a selfie from Liverpool’s gym, Carragher shared a cryptic message on X, writing: “I’m not sure I’ve wanted Liverpool to win a game more than tonight for a long time. Come (on) you mighty Reds.”
Salah’s former Egypt teammate Elmohamady swiftly responded, posting a fiery defence of the Liverpool forward on X.
“Right Jamie, you’re a disgrace. Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances,” the retired right-back wrote. “He didn’t ‘fail’ at Chelsea — he was never given the chance. He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then came to Liverpool and became a Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest-ever player, and one of the most consistent forwards of his generation.”
Elmohamady also highlighted Salah’s remarkable contributions to the national team: “Salah has carried Egypt for years, getting the team to the World Cup twice after so long. He earned everything.”
He concluded his post by questioning Carragher’s credibility as a pundit, referencing past criticisms from football icons: “No wonder you got blanked by (Cristiano) Ronaldo. No wonder (Lionel) Messi called you out. No wonder (Jose) Mourinho said you were below average and not even in the top 1000 defenders in the Premier League.”
