Indian authorities have deported 32 Nigerians allegedly linked to a sprawling transnational drug network, just weeks after security operatives arrested about 50 suspects in a multi-state narcotics operation.
The arrests were part of what officials describe as one of India’s largest coordinated crackdowns targeting a foreign-run drug and hawala syndicate operating across several major cities.
According to a report by the Times of India, investigators traced the network to a Nigeria-based drug kingpin known simply as “Nick,” who is wanted in multiple trafficking cases. Senior officials from the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) revealed that all Nigerians arrested in Delhi were allegedly working directly for the fugitive mastermind.
The report noted that the EAGLE team, in collaboration with Delhi Police, arrested 50 Nigerians linked to drug operations, and within days, 32 of them were deported. Investigators say the group formed part of an extensive supply chain controlled remotely from Nigeria.
Officials disclosed that “Nick” is believed to maintain around 100 associates in Delhi alone, creating a multilayered network that distributes narcotics to clients across the country. A forensic review of digital devices recovered from the suspects reportedly revealed over 3,000 customers—identified through encrypted chats, payment records, and delivery contacts.
The investigation also uncovered a series of businesses used as fronts to launder drug proceeds. Payments were allegedly routed through companies that appeared legitimate but existed primarily to clean illicit funds. In one case, a local publisher reportedly laundered Rs 20 lakh to Nigeria, while other peddlers partnered with footwear and apparel traders to mask transactions.
The Delhi Police have since deported 32 of the Nigerian nationals “on priority,” while seven others are facing prosecution after narcotics were found in their possession during the raid. Officials say the remaining suspects may also be deported once clearance and documentation processes are completed.
