The Duke of Sussex has reportedly secured a victory in a Home Office review of his police security detail for visits to the UK.

Harry had long campaigned for 24-hour armed protection since stepping back from royal duties, following a security threat he faced during his September visit this year. In response, he wrote to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood requesting a risk reassessment.

The Home Office had initiated a review of the earlier decision that removed Prince Harry from the 24-hour armed protection list. According to The Sun, this marks the first time in six years that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) may comply with such a request.

If approved, the decision could allow Prince Harry’s children, Archie and Lilibet, to meet their grandfather, King Charles, in person.

The prince had previously expressed anger when his security detail was withdrawn “overnight” after announcing his intention to live independently from the royal family. Speaking to the BBC in May, after losing an earlier appeal, Harry called the decision an “establishment stitch-up” and suggested it contributed to a prolonged period of estrangement from the King. They were reunited in September after nearly two years of no contact.

Two separate security incidents during his UK visits prompted Harry to request the latest review.

A government spokesperson said:
“The UK government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

The case remains under investigation, with a final decision expected next month.
