The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stated that it has not received any official information regarding the release of 100 students recently abducted in Niger State.
In a statement on Monday, December 8, Bishop Bulus Yohanna, Chairman of CAN’s Niger State Chapter, said that while it would be wonderful news if the students had been freed, no official update has been communicated to the affected communities.
“It would be a source of great joy if some of our children have been released. We have been praying and waiting for their return. If this is true, it would indeed be cheering news. However, we are not officially aware and have not been duly notified,” he said.
The statement added: “We hope and pray it is true and look forward to the release of the remaining students.”
The abduction occurred on November 21, 2025, when armed bandits attacked St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in the remote Papiri community, taking 315 people—303 students and 12 teachers.
Fifty pupils managed to escape on the first day and have since been reunited with their families.
