Actress Peggy Ovire has formally responded to the ₦100 million demand letter issued by actor Taiye Arimoro through his lawyers — and she is rejecting his account in its entirety.
In a detailed statement from Peggy’s legal team, Taiye’s allegations were described as “misleading, selective, and materially false,” with the lawyers insisting he is misrepresenting the events that occurred. According to the response, the incident began after Taiye was asked to return to set, but instead allegedly engaged in a heated confrontation. The letter claims he went on to assault the Production Manager, Luke Obayi, before allegedly head-butting Peggy’s driver, Joshua Madu, leaving him bleeding from the ear and nose. Several witnesses at the location reportedly provided statements to the police corroborating Taiye’s alleged aggressive behaviour.
Peggy’s lawyers further stated that Taiye attempted to flee the scene immediately after the altercation, and that efforts to stop him were only to prevent him from escaping before the police arrived. They maintained that Peggy never assaulted him, explaining that the only physical contact occurred when she “pushed him lightly” after he allegedly tried to deflate her tyres. They added that Taiye’s Instagram Live session was a deliberate attempt to sway public opinion, and that the CCTV footage he released was selectively edited to support his narrative.
The response also dismissed claims of mob action, a broken jaw, harassment, or any other form of violence against Taiye as entirely fabricated. It noted that both the police and the Actors Guild of Nigeria are already investigating the matter, describing Taiye’s demand letter as “premature” and lacking merit.
Peggy’s legal team rejected the ₦100 million compensation request and noted that she may file her own petitions for assault, defamation, and interference with production. To reinforce her stance, Peggy wrote on Instagram that her silence should not be mistaken for weakness, reminding the public that the investigation is ongoing and that the truth will unfold in due course.
