President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to the United States on Tuesday, November 4, for high-level diplomatic talks with U.S. officials, following global reactions to allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria and threats of military intervention from former U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to SaharaReporters, Tinubu is scheduled to meet with U.S. Vice President James David Vance, who has been delegated by Trump to receive the Nigerian leader in Washington.

The visit comes shortly after Trump reportedly warned that the U.S. military could act against Nigeria if the alleged killings of Christians persist. Trump is said to have instructed America’s Department of War to “prepare for possible action”, describing any potential military response as “fast, vicious, and sweet.”

In response, the Nigerian Presidency denied claims of religious genocide, emphasizing that Nigeria remains a democracy that guarantees freedom of religion.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equality and religious freedom, noting ongoing efforts to engage both Christian and Muslim leaders in addressing national security challenges.

“The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality,” Tinubu said, highlighting that diversity and peaceful coexistence are central to Nigeria’s identity.

He also stressed that Nigeria will continue collaborating with the United States and other international partners to promote understanding and safeguard communities of all faiths.
