Resident doctors in Nigeria have announced plans to embark on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike effective November 1, 2025.
The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Mohammed Usman Suleiman, disclosed this while reading a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the association’s Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting.
He directed all members to conduct ward rounds and hand over their patients to consultants in preparation for the industrial action.
Among the 19-point demands outlined by NARD are the immediate commencement of specialist allowance payments to all doctors in recognition of their crucial role in providing specialist medical care across the country. The association also demanded the correction of all entry-level placements of doctors to their appropriate salary grades, as well as the decentralisation and streamlining of promotion and upgrading processes to improve efficiency in training and clinical service delivery.
