Gunmen have reportedly k!lled a village head and one other person during an attack on Darong community in Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, when unidentified assailants invaded the community and opened fire indiscriminately. During the attack, the village head of Gyel District, Dara Pam Choji, and another unidentified male sustained gunshot injuries.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Bukuru, led a team of operatives to the scene and evacuated the victims to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, both victims were confirmed d3ad on arrival by the doctor on duty.
A youth leader in the area and President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Solomon Dalyop, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. He said the assault came despite earlier warnings about planned attacks on communities in the district.
“At about 7:50 p.m. on October 21, 2025, bandits suspected to be armed Fulani attacked and shot d3ad two people, including Mr. Pam Choji, while one person sustained injuries at Darong village of Gyel District in Jos South LGA,” Dalyop stated.
“The bandits just opened fire on the community. The attack came after an early warning about planned raids on Gyel and neighbouring villages.”
Security sources confirmed that a reinforcement comprising army troops and police personnel has since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further unrest.
The spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, also confirmed the incident, saying:
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. We have just concluded our monthly press briefing and are moving to the community right now.”
