The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of petrol from ₦865 to ₦992 per litre, signaling another rise in fuel costs across the country.
As of now, no official reason has been given for the sudden price hike. However, attendants at several NNPC fuel stations have confirmed receiving instructions to update their pump meters to reflect the new price.
At the NNPC station on Ogunusi Road, Ojodu Berger in Lagos, staff told The Nation they had been directed to switch the price to ₦992 per litre. Meanwhile, at other locations, such as outlets in Ibafo along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway, some stations still displayed the previous price of ₦875 per litre but were reportedly not dispensing fuel to motorists.
On Monday, October 13, many NNPC stations in Lagos and surrounding areas were either closed or not selling petrol, worsening the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country.
This price adjustment comes amid growing reports of petrol shortages in various regions. Abuja, in particular, has recently seen long queues at filling stations, reportedly due to a dispute involving the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Motorists are advised to stay updated on fuel availability as the situation develops.
