May Edochie has opened up about how she first met her estranged husband, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie long before the spotlight, marriage, or the headlines.
In a recent lifestyle feature, May shared that their paths first crossed during her early university days not at a glamorous event or movie set, but at a General Certificate Examination (GCE) centre.
“Way back in school when I went to the East for my university, I’m a bookworm. It’s always been about books for me. We didn’t meet at a party or any glamorous setting; we met at a GCE centre,” she recalled.
At the time, May had just relocated from Lagos to begin her studies at Enugu State University, while Yul was a student at the University of Port Harcourt. Their meeting, she explained, was purely academic a far cry from the celebrity lifestyle they would later become known for.
Reflecting on her younger self, May described herself as a deeply focused and studious individual who prioritized her education over social life.
“I wasn’t into parties or outings. I was all about my books,” she said.
Her story offers a rare glimpse into the quiet beginnings of a relationship that would later become a high-profile part of Nigeria’s entertainment scene — and reminds readers that even the most public lives often begin in the most ordinary places.
