The family of veteran Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola has spoken out to clear up rumors surrounding the death of her only child, Ayomikun.
The Nigerian movie industry was recently shaken by the heartbreaking news of Ayomikun’s passing. Following the announcement, false reports circulated online claiming he died in the UK from a bathroom accident.
However, the family, through spokesperson Yemi Amodu, released a statement confirming that Ayomikun passed away after a brief illness in Ibadan, Nigeria, and has already been laid to rest.
The statement reads in part:
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle (son of Sunday & Peju Ogunmola Omobolanle), a precious child and rising star whose light touched many lives. His loss is deeply felt by our family and all who knew him.
We wish to clarify that Sola did not pass away as a result of any bathroom accident, contrary to false reports online. He was briefly ill and received excellent medical care during this time. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he peacefully passed away at a hospital in Ibadan and has since been buried at Eternal Rest Home.
We urge the public to disregard the unfounded claims spreading misinformation about his death. These false stories dishonour his memory and cause unnecessary pain to our family.
We are grateful for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support from family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a great comfort to us.
We pray that no other family experiences such a loss. May the Almighty grant Sola eternal rest and give us strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
The family’s statement seeks to put an end to the rumors and honor Ayomikun’s memory with the truth.
