Spanish club Sevilla have officially parted ways with Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract, which was originally due to run until June 30, 2026.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer but struggled to make an impact at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. He featured in 15 matches across all competitions during the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals, before being loaned out to Championship side Middlesbrough in January.
At Middlesbrough, the 28-year-old registered one goal and two assists in 15 appearances, but his performances were not enough to convince Sevilla to reintegrate him into their plans. He was left out of the squad for the club’s opening three league fixtures this season, effectively signaling the end of his spell in Spain.
Confirming the decision, Sevilla said in a statement:
“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City.”
The Super Eagles forward is now strongly linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic, where he could reunite with manager Brendan Rodgers, his former coach at Leicester City.
Iheanacho’s next career move will be pivotal as he looks to revive his form ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations.
