Sean “Diddy” Combs has won a legal victory in one of several civil cases filed against him, even as he awaits sentencing in his federal criminal trial.

A New York judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by a man who accused the music mogul of drugging and sexually assaulting him at a Los Angeles nightclub in 2015. The plaintiff, identified as John Doe, filed the case in February, claiming he was a 23-year-old aspiring artist at the time of the alleged incident. He alleged that after consuming a drink at the event, he lost consciousness and later awoke to find Combs engaging in non-consensual sexual activity. The suit, filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, further claimed Combs threatened to sabotage Doe’s career if he resisted.

The judge ruled the lawsuit barred by the statute of limitations. Under the law in effect at the time, such claims had a five-year window. While New York extended the limit to 20 years in 2019, the court determined the amendment was not retroactive.

Claims against Combs’ companies, including Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises, were also dismissed.

This decision marks another in a string of recent dismissals in Combs’ civil cases, though several remain active. He is scheduled to be sentenced in his federal case on October 3.
