At least 15 people, including four journalists working for international media, were killed in an Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip.

Among the victims were Husam al-Masri, a Reuters cameraman, and Mariam Dagga, a freelance journalist working for the Associated Press (AP). Another journalist, Mohammed Salameh, worked for Al Jazeera, while photographer Muath Abu Taha was also killed. Contrary to earlier reports, US network NBC confirmed that Taha was not affiliated with their organization.

The Hamas-run Civil Defence reported that the hospital was hit twice: first by an initial missile strike, and then by a second missile targeting the same location as rescuers arrived on the scene.

The Hamas-run health ministry confirmed that the missiles struck the hospital’s fourth floor, causing significant casualties.

The Israeli military acknowledged carrying out the attack and said an investigation had been ordered. It added that it “does not target journalists as such.”

This attack follows another tragic incident two weeks earlier, when six journalists, including four from Al Jazeera, were killed in an Israeli strike near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

The Civil Defence reported that among those killed was one of its own members, bringing the total casualties to 15.
